I was wandering around in a slightly old Shanghai residential area. The apartment buildings standing in a row all looked like they were several decades old. And the alleyway running between the apartments was filled with the scent of daily life.
As I walked through such a place, I spotted a man napping on a chair by the wall. He was sleeping comfortably with his hands folded in front of his chest. I guessed it was cooler to sleep outside than inside the house. Summer in Shanghai is hot. When I walked around these old-fashioned places, I often saw people sleeping on the street. Sleeping on the street is not so rare in Shanghai.
