The man was resting inside a shack-like structure that stood by the roadside. Dressed in a tank top, he was most likely a cycle-rickshaw puller. Pedaling under the scorching sun is grueling physical labor, and it’s no wonder he needed to stop and rest from time to time. This moment, it seemed, was one of those precious breaks.
When I pointed my camera at him, he immediately furrowed his brow. A suspicious glare shot straight toward me. He had been resting quietly, and I had no doubt he saw me as an intruder disturbing his peace. For someone who must soon return to such strenuous work, the ability to switch gears—and to rest without interruption—might be nothing short of essential.
