Unlike in less-developed countries, few people in Taiwan show interest in the camera itself that I carry. Taiwan is already well developed and affluent. A camera is not a rare machine. No one is interested in me just because I am walking around with a camera in my hand, and children do not come close to me. I felt a bit lonely.
In such a situation, this man working at Chong De Market in Tainan was one of the few who showed interest in a camera. When I approached the man to meet his gaze, he was happy to let me take his picture. Holding up the camera, the man stood in front of the oven with his chest out and looked at the lens.
