While I was pacing around the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, it was time for the changing of the guard. There is only a statue of Chiang Kai-shek here, but there are guardsmen. And they are changing every hour. Three guards were coming up the stairs leading to the entrance of the memorial hall. Beyond the three of them, I could see the main gate of this site.
Wearing matching metal helmets, the guards were advancing faster and faster at a steady pace. There was no sign of hesitation at all. They were like robots without any self-consciousness or emotions. Even when they came in front of me, of course they didn't give me a second glance. In the blink of an eye, they crossed my eyes and entered the hall where his fellow guards were waiting.
