A group of men was chatting on the side of the road on Saidpur when they spotted me. I guess these men find it easy to pass the time with a foreigner who is casually walking around with a camera. They approached me and asked me to take their picture.
They were supposed to be cheerful, but when I pointed my lens at them, what I saw in the viewfinder was four men with stern expressions on their faces, a complete change from what I had seen a moment before.
I have experienced this kind of situation many times while photographing people in India and Bangladesh. It seems that people are happy and excited to talk to strangers until you call out to them, but when it comes time for them to point the camera at you and take your picture, they get nervous.
