It happened while I was walking through the backstreets of Ho Chi Minh City. Once I turned off the noisy main road and stepped into a narrow alley, the air seemed to slow down, as if time itself had eased its pace.
Around a corner, I came across a mother sitting with her baby. They were resting quietly under the eaves, shaded from the sun. Our eyes met, and when I lifted my camera, she gently placed the baby on her lap and smiled warmly toward me.
The baby, on the other hand, stared at me in silent curiosity, not quite sure what was happening. That gaze—free from language or rules—held a kind of pure light, as if the child was already trying to absorb everything about this unfamiliar world with all their might.
