A man was sitting in a corner of the market I visited in Murshidabad, going about his business. The man's job is to collect scrap tobacco leaves and carefully make paper cigarettes by hand, one by one. This is a job not often seen in Japan. I watched him work for a while, a master craftsman's work.
After watching for a while, I pointed my camera at the man, but he was shy and only smiled bashfully. He kept looking at his hand and never looked at my lens. He had a cigarette between his fingers.
