A father was walking through the city of Panauti with his child in his arms. The child's hair was short and shaggy, so I thought it was a young boy, but when I looked closer, I saw that it was wearing a piercing on its ear. It was a girl. She was very interested in my camera and stared at me with her big, round eyes.
In Japan, it is very rare to see a young girl with pierced ears. However, it is not uncommon to see girls with piercings from a very young age in South Asia, such as Nepal and India, and also in Southeast Asia. A young girl I met in the Philippines also had both ears pierced firmly.
