As usual, I was walking through the alleys of a residential neighborhood. The alleys are a maze of tangled alleys in this old-fashioned town that stretches across Shanghai. As soon as I started walking, I lost track of where I was, and it was a maze. But that is one of the best parts of walking in a town you don't know. It won't be long before the alleys where you can enjoy such a real pleasure disappear in Shanghai, where redevelopment is already proceeding at a rapid pace.
As I was walking along, I saw two people standing by the side of the road talking. Unlike me, the locals must know exactly where they are, while it is difficult for strangers to get a complete picture of the alley. In that sense, the alley maybe like a ninja house, a mechanism to prevent intruders from the outside.
