A figure with a downcast look was walking across the alley. It was not only the figure with a downcast look on its face, but also the entire alley. When the town was prosperous, there were so many Japanese people living here that there was even a Japanese club. The wandering poet Mitsuharu Kaneko also stayed at the Japanese Club, and his experience was reflected in the chapter “Batu Pahat” in “Travels in Malaya".
