Walking through the old medina of Sefrou, there are moments when time begins to blur. Narrow, winding cobblestone alleys stretch between ancient walls, their upper reaches crowded with wooden beams and tiny windows that jut out overhead — like remnants of a monastery or fortress. It felt, for a moment, as if I had stumbled into a medieval role-playing game.
Up ahead, I saw a stout woman slowly making her way down the stone path. She wore layer upon layer of faded garments and leaned on a walking stick. The uneven stones beneath her feet seemed to echo with the weight of centuries. With each step, her body swayed gently, deliberately — as if moving to the rhythm of a somber, ancient melody.
She said nothing, only pressed forward, absorbed in the motion. And then, just as quietly as she had appeared, she vanished into the shadows. The silence deepened.
When her figure had completely disappeared, I realized I was alone. No footsteps echoed ahead or behind. The wind had stilled, and only the air remained. Time itself seemed soaked into the walls — dense, silent, and unmoving.
