I met a girl I met while I was hanging around the city of Dhaka. The girl, who was wearing a necklace, was cheerful. When I pointed the camera at her, she bit her upper lip lightly and smiled at me. She seemed a little embarrassed.
Bangladesh, where Dhaka is located, is a country with an overwhelming majority of Muslims. This girl is likely to be a Muslim as well. But this girl seemed to be old enough to not have to cover her hair with a veil yet, and she smiled at me with her hair exposed.
In the Muslim world, it is common for women to cover their hair with a cloth such as the hijab, but there is no standardized rule that women must not show their hair at what age. It is said that women start to cover their hair from the early years of elementary school, but it depends on the education policy of each family. I'm sure this girl will start wearing a hijab soon, too.
