A young man working in a maintenance shop I saw in Berhampore was holding a part in his hand for my camera. He was in the middle of washing the parts and his hands were black with oil. The oil on his hands looked like it would be hard to wash off.
Not only in this city but in India, there are many maintenance shops all over town. Many of them repair motorbikes. When I walked around the city, of course, I saw cars running around, but motorbikes were by far the most common on the roads. India is the world's largest producer of motorcycles, with motorcycles accounting for 80% of the total automobile production. There must be a lot of demand for the repairs.
