This town was the imperial capital of the Nguyen dynasty between 1802 and 1945. The gate in this photo is the main gate of the palace called 'Noon gate'. I heard the sun came just above this gate at noon. When I visited, many lotus leaves ran rampant in the moat.
This town was one of the bloodiest battlefields during the Vietnam War. It was said that many historical buildings were destroyed at that time. And now it is listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites as Complex of Huế Monuments.
