The man was repairing shoes by the roadside
A man was sitting by the wayside and repairing shoes. There were also many umbrellas around him. The place was his little shop. He was a repairman and repaired not only shoes but also umbrellas. Besides, he was selling secondhand umbrellas.
I saw many repairmen working by the roadside around here. Both shoe and umbrella were consumable supplies. Yet the locals used them with caution. It was common to have repaired when they got broken.
