When I arrived in Banaue, a bicycle race festival was being held. The race was not a full-blown contest of leg strength on a bicycle. It was a simple race down a hill with people dressed up in caveman-like costumes. To the outsider, it didn't look like a race for time.
The women standing on the stairs and landing were spectators of the bike race. Many of the women and children were watching from a slightly higher vantage point, in contrast to the men who were standing by the side of the road watching the race.
