When I wondered why the locals were so excited, I found out that the day I visited Banaue was the day of a bicycle race. The bicycle race was a simple race in which people dressed in traditional costumes rode bicycles that looked like they were made out of wood down a mountain road.
I followed the locals and watched the bicycles coming down the mountain. The race seemed to be very popular among the locals, with men and women of all ages standing on the side of the road watching the bikes go by. Young children were also watching the race with rapt attention.
