The men were curious about a stranger, a Gentile from Japan
As I was walking down Malda, five men came up to me. They were happy to stand in front of the camera and talk to me. They seemed to be talking to me just for the fun of it, as they had spotted a foreigner, which is not common in this area. They seemed to think that a foreigner walking around was a good way to pass the time.
When I told them I was from Japan, their eyes lit up and they listened. Fortunately, many people know about Japan. Even if they have never actually visited the country, most of them have a good understanding that it is in Asia, and I have never had anyone ask me where Japan is located.
