Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. It is located on the Buriganga River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra River, in the center of the country. The city's origins are ancient, but its prosperity as a city dates back to 1608, when the Mughal governor, Islam Khan, moved the capital of Bengal to this city and named it Jahangirnagar after the then emperor.
