The man with a tank top chuckled with mischief
A man in a tank top was working on the side of the road in Kolkata. His beard as well as his chest hair was white. When I pointed the camera at him, he smiled like a child who had succeeded in being naughty. It was a lovely smile. But it didn't seem appropriate for his age.
The boys I meet on my travels in India are adorable, with their big eyes rolling back and forth. However, such cute children grow a mustache as they get older, and they become sullen adult men. I think the reason why I felt somewhat uncomfortable with this elastic smile was that he had a thin head, a thick beard, and was for all intents and purposes middle-aged, but his smile was the only thing that made him seem childlike.
