There was a stone Hindu temple in the middle of the square in Bungamati. The temple is called Machhindranath, and it has a long history. However, when I visited the temple, there were no worshippers in sight, and the temple was quiet. The only people around the temple were the local children.
There was a boy and a girl standing in front of the temple. As I exchanged gestures with them, another tall girl arrived. As I looked closer, I saw a dog lying behind the three of them. So I composed the picture so that the children and the dog would appear together in the photo.
No one would blame a dog for lounging around in the cloisters of a historic temple. Hinduism is very tolerant of animals. For Hindus, who believe in reincarnation, this dog might be thought to be the reincarnation of someone from the village.
