Wat Phra Kaew is quite crowded, especially the main temple, Emerald Temple. This is a popular tourist attraction in Bangkok. The cloister was empty even in such precincts. There was only one elderly couple sitting down to rest, and no one else was walking around. Perhaps the couple was tired of walking through the crowded temple grounds. They were pointing here and there and talking about something. The cloister was quiet and serene. It was a good place to take a rest in the busy temple grounds.

Just because there is no one around does not mean that there is nothing to see in this cloister. The walls of the cloister are covered with murals, which are interesting to look at. They probably depict Buddhist stories or stories of the Thai royal family. However, it is difficult to understand the content of the murals without explanatory notes. I walked along the wall looking at the murals, but could not grasp what kind of story was going on in the murals until the end.
