The square clock tower, built by a wealthy Peranakan merchant in 1886, was originally equipped with an English clock. It was replaced by the current Seiko clock in 1982 when the tower was renovated.

Dutch Square is the most famous tourist attraction in Malacca. A lot of tourists visit here and many locals do business with tourists here. Trishaw is one of them. Near the clock tower, a number of trishaw with umbrellas were waiting for visitors.
